Boobette goes to a feast in the Mead of the First Encounter. She discovers the horrible fate of the Gentle Likpas who made the mistake of marrying a scragun...

But Boobette arrives at the stand of the League for the Protection of abused gentle Likpas, and she is shocked by what she learns.

Some days later, Boobette decides to adopt Likpato, a martyred Likpa who just arrived from the town

Boobette welcomes Likpato Martyre into her home, with instructions never to leave him alone.

But Likpato does not talk, and his deformed nose causes him to have terrifying nocturnal apnoeas! Leaving him permanently exhausted.

A medelik puts some sort of tubes to Likpato, to allow it to breathe normally.

Likpato starts to read about scraguns and what he has been through
